Redskins win third straight
September 5
MINGO JUNCTION - The Indian Creek boys
soccer team improved to 3-2 Thursday with a 4-1 victory over visiting
St. Clairsville at Muth Field.
After two losses to start the year, the
Redskins have now won three in a row. Head coach Dan Lawrence is happy
with the way his team dealt with the early-season adversity.
"We struggled early, but we got a big win
at East Liverpool that gave us some momentum," he said. "That momentum
carried us through the Brooke game and now into today's game. I credit a
tremendous amount of senior leadership by Brandon Mathieu. He has had
six goals this week."
The Redskins were paced by A.J. Brettell
and Brandon Mathieu, each scoring two goals. Brettell Bryan Bowers,
Dakota Patterson and Jordan Van Kirk each contributed an assist for the
victors.
Goalkeeper Eric Price had eight saves for
Indian Creek, who will host Edison at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
"We have confidence right now," Lawrence
explained. "We have a week off until Edison and we expect a good week of
practice for them. We are going to work on a few things that need to be
fixed and come out to try to keep the ball rolling."
Rising Creek: Redskin soccer edges
Bruins, 2-1
September 2
WELLSBURG - Brandon Mathieu scored both
goals for the Indian Creek boys soccer team on Tuesday off assists by
Bryan Bowers and Brandon Staudacher as the Redskins defeated host
Brooke, 2-1.
"They came to play today," Bruins coach
John Zumpetta said of Indian Creek. "They came over here to win."
Eric Price made 12 saves for the winners
(2-2), who will host St. Clairsville at 5 p.m. on Thursday at Muth
Field.
"We knew this week was a big week for
us," said Redskins coach Danny Lawrence. "We played good defense today
and capitalized when we should have. Brooke is a good team, we just
outplayed them today.
"It's been a long time since we've beaten
Brooke - the 2000 season when I was a freshman."
Cody Schwertfeger scored via an assist
from Sean Garay in the second half. Josh Counselman made three saves.
"We pressured them in the second half and
just couldn't put the ball in the net," said Zumpetta, whose team will
visit Fairmont Senior at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
"We survived a barrage of shots in the
second half," said Lawrence.
The Redskins (2-2) were fresh off a 5-0
win at East Liverpool on Monday as A.J. Brettell and Mathieu each scored
twice. Evan Winfield added the other goal. Staudacher added two assists.
